8. Seasonal spell candles
Winter is a great time to create spell candles, as the darkness of the season aligns with the inward-focused energy needed to set strong intentions.
Spend time thinking carefully about the purpose, meaning and motivation of your intentions and the candles to hold them.
To make your spell candles, start with a base of natural wax, such as soy or beeswax. For aesthetics AND power, choose colours that resonate with your intentions – white for purity, green for renewal, red for passion or black for protection.
You can also choose essential oils that align with your intentions, like pine for protection or cinnamon for attraction.
Carefully, in a double boiler or microwave, melt your wax. Once it’s melted, mix in your chosen essential oils and pour the wax into candle moulds or jars. Before the wax sets completely, you can add herbs or crystals that correspond to your intention,.
Allow the candles to cool completely before using them in your rituals. As you light your seasonal spell candles, focus on your intentions and visualize the energy you wish to manifest.

Cleanse the wand: Purify your wand by saining it with dried herbs, passing it through incense smoke, or placing it under running water to remove any unwanted energies.
Activate your wand: Hold the wand in your hands and visualize the energy and intentions you wish to channel through it. Focus on what you want to manifest or achieve.
Your handmade wand will be a beautiful tool for your magical work, infused with your unique energy and intentions, making it a potent tool. So enjoy the process of creating and connecting with this special piece!
10. Witch bells
Hanging witch bells are age-old protective decorative amulates hung in the homes of witches, often used to ward off negative energies and invite positivity. The gentle sound of the bells is believed to attract good spirits while keeping unwanted energies at bay. Crafting your own witch bells is a simple and really fun process to do, especially together with friends.
Here’s how to create your own set of hanging witch bells:
Gather and cleanse your materials: You will need a selection of bells (metal or wooden), a sturdy string or twine, and decorative elements such as beads, crystals, or pendants. You can also use a branch or a hoop to hang the bells from.
Choose your bells: Select bells that resonate with you. The size and material can vary, but they should make a pleasant sound when jingled. You can source bells from all sorts of places, Here are some suggestions:
- Boho style bells
- Brass minimal cow bell (I really love these)
- Rustic fire-finished bells
- Handmade Indian chimes
String the bells: Cut a length of twine and thread it through the tops of the bells. If using multiple bells, space them evenly along the string. You can also tie knots between the bells for added decoration.
Add decorative elements: As you string the bells, incorporate beads, crystals, or pendants, and even dried herbs or flowers that hold significance for you. For example, use protective stones like black tourmaline or calming herbs like lavender.
Create a hanging loop: Once your bells and decorations are strung, tie a secure loop at the top of the string for hanging. Make sure it’s strong enough to support the weight of the bells.
Hang your witch bells: Choose a location for your witch bells, such as near a door, window, or in a prominent spot in your home. As they jingle, they will help to cleanse the space and invite positive energy.
Making hanging witch bells is not only a fun winter craft but also a meaningful way to enhance the protective atmosphere of your home. Enjoy the process and the beautiful sound they create!
11. Scented pinecones
Scented pinecones are a natural way to bring the cosy aromas of winter into your home.
These charming decorations will add a festive touch to your decor whilst serving as a wonderful air freshener, infusing your space with seasonal scents. Making your own scented pinecones is simple and can be a fun craft to enjoy during the colder months.
Making them is easy (and it’s also great to do with kids!). Here’s how:
Gather pinecones: Collect clean, dry pinecones from your yard or a local park. Make sure they are fully opened; if not, you can bake them at a low temperature (200°F or 93°C) for about 30 minutes to help them open up (be sure to shake out any insects first!)
Choose your scents: Select essential oils or natural fragrances that evoke the season, such as cinnamon, clove, pine, or vanilla. You can also add dried, powdered herbs and spices too.
Scent the pinecones: Place the pinecones in a large bowl or a ziplock bag. Add 10-15 drops of your chosen essential oils or a mix of dried herbs and spices. Shake or mix well to ensure the scent is evenly distributed.
Let them sit: Allow the scented pinecones to sit for at least 24 hours in a sealed container or bag to absorb the fragrances fully.
Display (or wrap and give as gifts): Once the pinecones are scented, arrange them in a decorative bowl, use them in wreaths, or scatter them around your home for a seasonal winter touch.
Scented pinecones are not only a beautiful way to enhance the cosy atmosphere of your home during the winter months, but make wonderful gifts for fellow hearth witches! Enjoy
12. Wishing stones
Wishing stones are simple yet meaningful tools that help you focus your intentions and manifest your desires. Typically small, smooth stones, they can be carried with you or placed on your altar as reminders of your wishes and goals.

Once adorned, hold each stone in your hands and visualize your intentions, connecting with the energy you wish to manifest. Keep your wishing stones in a special place, such as on your altar or in your pocket, serving as daily reminders of your intentions.

16. Miniature herb gardens
One of my favourite Green Witch winter activities, creating a miniature herb garden is a lovely way to bring the essence of nature indoors. These micro-gardens not only add greenery to your space but also provide fresh herbs for cooking, teas, and magical practices.
It’s so simple – just choose a selection of herbs that thrive indoors, such as basil, oregano, lemon balm, or mint. Plant seeds them in small pots, a decorative container, or even a wooden crate for a charming kitchen witchery aesthetic.
You might want to incorporate crystals or small figurines to serve as offerings, and enhance the garden’s energy.
Place your miniature herb garden in a sunny spot where it can receive adequate light, and remember to water it regularly.
17. Dried orange garland
A dried orange garland is a beautiful and fragrant decoration that adds a warm, festive touch to your winter decor. This simple craft will fill your home it with the delightful scent of citrus, evoking feelings of cheer and warmth during the colder months.
Here’s how to make your own garland:
Prepare the oranges: Slice fresh oranges into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch thick. Ensure the slices are uniform for even drying.
Dry the Orange Slices:
- Oven Method – Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Place the orange slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they don’t overlap. Bake for 4-6 hours, flipping them halfway through, until completely dried and firm.
- Dehydrator Method – If using a dehydrator, arrange the orange slices on the trays and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for drying, typically around 8-10 hours.
Gather the rest of your materials: Once the orange slices are fully dried, gather natural twine or string for your garland. You can also collect more decorative and aromatic elements like cinnamon sticks, star anise, or bunches of dried herbs.
Assemble the garland: Thread the dried orange slices onto the twine, spacing them out as desired and knotting them into place. You can alternate with cinnamon sticks or other decorative elements, or just freestyle the design!
Hang and enjoy! Once your garland is complete, find a lovely spot to display it, such as your mantel, altar, or Yule tree.
Enjoy the cheerful ambience and delightful scent that your dried orange garland brings to your home during the winter season!

19. Herbal vinegar infusions
Often overlooked in favour of oils or teas, herbal vinegar infusions are another witchy way to capture the essence of seasonal herbs, adding flavour to your cooking and enhancing your magical practices.
To create your infusion, start with high-quality vinegar, like apple cider or white wine vinegar, and choose herbs that resonate with your intentions, such as rosemary for protection or mint for clarity.
Fill a clean glass jar with your chosen herbs and pour the vinegar over them, ensuring they are fully submerged. Seal the jar and store it in a cool, dark place for a complete Moon cycle, shaking gently every few days.
Once ready, strain out the herbs and transfer the vinegar to a clean bottle, labelling it with the date and ingredients.
Use your herbal vinegar in cooking, cleaning, or rituals, enjoying the enhanced energy and flavour it brings to your life.
20. Yule wreath
Last but absolutely not least, no witch’s home is complete at Yuletide without a home crafted wreath hanging on the front door.
Use evergreen foliage like cedar, pine and holly, along with any dried herbs, seed heads or flowers you have collected over autumn.
Steps to create a yule wreath:
Gather your materials: Collect evergreen leaves, twigs with berries, grasses and other natural foliage. You’ll need a wreath base, which can be made of straw, wire, or willow, or you can buy one pre-made. Plus wire or string to attach your greenery and a pair of decent secateurs.
Prepare the leaves, twigs and grasses: Trim the stems of your foliage and herbs to about 4-6 inches in length. Make about 12 small bundles, in three or four different designs, securing with string.
Attach the bundles: Secure the bunches around the wreath base, alternating designs, using string to and tie them tightly into place. Layer the bunches so that each one hides the string from the previous one. (Doing it like this, rather than attaching one stem at a time is SO much easier, and makes the wreath look much fuller, giving a more professional finish – trust me!)
Fill in gaps: Add a few last sprigs, herbs, twigs and grasses until the wreath is full and visually balanced. Be mindful of the overall shape and design, and feel free to experiment with different arrangements until you achieve the desired look.
Finish and hang the wreath: Once you’re satisfied with your wreath, secure any loose stems and trim any excess. Add a ribbon or twine for hanging, and choose a prominent place to display your wreath, such as your front door or a wall in your home.
Your dried flower wreath will not only beautify your space but will also serve as a seasonal reminder of Mother nature’s green shoots, even in the darkness of deep midwinter.
